The SPE Motorsport 6.7L Powerstroke Crank Gear Timing Tool was designed to give engine builders, repair shops, and experienced DIY customers a precise way to reference crankshaft timing when dealing with a slipped crank gear or P0016 cam/crank correlation issue.
On the 6.7L Powerstroke, the factory crank gear is an interference-fit design with no keyway, pin, or welded retention from the factory. In higher-load applications, especially trucks running larger injection pumps, added fuel system drag, heavy towing, or increased power, the crank gear can slip on the crankshaft. When that happens, cam timing is no longer properly aligned with crankshaft position, which can trigger a P0016 code and, in severe cases, lead to major engine damage.
This tool gives you a true crankshaft-referenced timing point instead of relying on less accurate methods like lasers, guesswork, or external alignment points. The tool locates off the crankshaft snout, balancer dowel pin, and crank OD, providing a precise reference for top dead center alignment.
Each pointer tool is CNC-machined in-house by SPE Motorsport and held to extremely tight tolerances for a secure, repeatable fit on the crankshaft. The included adjustable pointer allows you to align the crank gear timing tooth with the cam gear timing marks during repair or re-timing.
Whether you are removing and re-clocking the crank gear the proper way, verifying alignment before welding the gear, or keeping one in your toolbox for future repairs, this tool provides a clean, cost-effective solution for one of the more frustrating 6.7L Powerstroke timing issues.
