When Ford released the FP700 package back in 2023, enthusiasts everywhere were ecstatic. A new supercharged 700 horsepower standard cab short bed pickup reminiscent of the old Lightning?? Yes please! Now the FP700 was a package from Ford Performance, something you or the dealer could install on any Coyote powered F150, it was not a fully built vehicle from the factory. However, many dealers were preloading standard cab short bed pickups with the kit and adding a few other mods to make the closest thing we've seen to the SVT Lightning since 2001. At SEMA this year Ford released a new concept vehicle. An F150 standard cab short bed, equipped with the new FP700S package as well as a lowering kit (also available from Ford Performance) and a few other little goodies. The rumor is, it'll be a production vehicle this time around. This is one of the first moves we've seen from Ford since CEO Jim Farley made the statement: "No more boring cars". Keep it up Jim.

Free extended warranties and goodie bags. Just two of the things Cummins is using to incentivize owners to return their vehicles to the dealer, for an emissions update. After getting fined the largest fine in EPA history just last year, the engine manufacturer needs to update 85% of the nearly one million Ram pickups on the road, or they'll face even more fines. Cummins is obviously struggling to make this happen by the EPA's deadline. On top of the aforementioned incentives, several large advertising campaigns have been launched on social media and other popular sites.
The famous, or infamous depending on which side of the track you're on, Optimus Prime Fox Body Mustang owned by DragWire Solutions just blew up in spectacular fashion on it's latest trip to the dyno. Now to a certain extent, these things are built to blow up. When you're running the ragged edge of what a platform can handle, being prepared for failure is just part of it. So the damage had wasn't as bad as it looked. During the dyno run the car suffered a wiring problem which dropped the fuel pressure, causing an explosion which blew the blower off the top of it. Once the fire was put out all that was badly damaged was the harness, two injectors and some other small parts. The team says the car will be back running in two weeks. Link to the video is below.

Unfortunately the recent news about Ford's sales success isn't that great. The FP700S was great to hear, as was COE Jim Farley's "no more boring cars", but sales overall are down for the manufacturer. Following a peak stock price of $14.55 back in June, stock prices fell off a cliff before stabilizing at around $11, and it's been that way for a couple months. There's been news that Farley is at risk of being let go as well. The latest? Another massive round of layoffs. In Europe, Ford plans to reduce it's workforce by 4000 within the next 3 years, and has reassigned workers in several US plants for various reasons. Now this news of OE downward trends isn't exclusive to Ford, in fact Ford is doing better than most. Stellantis is down by an astonishing 43% so far in 2024. Toyota is down 3%. And just about every OE has started to downsize their own workforces. GM however seems to be one of a small handful with rising stock prices, they're up nearly 68% this year, but remember that number includes GM Defense. An amazing market to be in with the current global state of affairs.
5324 gallons of diesel. 5324 GALLONS. Thats how much fuel a tanker driver dumped illegally in a few different spots around Maryland, which ended in jail time. The specifics of this that amazed us, he did this to get paid more. Apparently the trucking company paid it's drivers for every pick up, not for every delivery. The stupidity of this story is almost unbelievable. According to TheDrive, after picking up roughly 8000 gallons, the driver made one stop at a fuel station, as he should have, delivering 2159 gallons of diesel, but with the remaining 5000+ gallons on board, he dumped those in random locations on the side of the road. One location saw 4300 gallons dumped, essentially on top of an aquifer. Tainting the water supply for an entire area. This guy was caught by multiple cameras and even left long tire tracks as he drove through the lakes of diesel he left behind. Pretty safe to say he's lost his CDL...
If you're one of the many that grew up driving a Ranger in high school, one of those that spent all your money on clear taillights, billet grilles and all the other things we hate to admit we loved back in the day, then you're probably losing your cool over the new Ranger options coming out lately. First the diesel option, then the Raptor version, now a "Super Duty" version. Just a few days ago Ford released some specifics for the new Ranger Super Duty, a heavy duty version of the mid-size pickup. Ford hasn't said a ton, but get this, the Ranger will have an unheard of load capacity for it's size at nearly 10,000 lbs. GVWR is also close to 10,000 lbs. For those of us who are scared to see a Ranger hauling a 10K lb load, don't worry, it's not going to be offered in the US.
