Lights Out 16 went off without a hitch this weekend for Ken Quartuccio and his ’69 Camaro. Before ousting Grantly Schloss in the final round of Radial vs. The World with a 3.68 eighth-mile blast at 216 mph, Quartuccio shocked the crowd with a 3.473 (at 212) mph on Friday night, topping Paulo Guist’s 3.479 record in the process. Pro 275 would belong to Brad Edwards and his Mustang—Edwards being the O.G. to go 3’s on drag radials. And although no diesels would take home a trophy, a boatload of them made it out to South Georgia Motorsports Park to compete. Michael Dalton’s bright orange Ram, a relatively fresh Cummins build, made it as far as E3 in the Pro Truck N/T category before being sent to the trailer.

The combine harvester this piston melted in didn’t come with a pyrometer from the factory…but it’s also why many farmers add an aftermarket EGT gauge to all of their equipment. Especially in the case of the 8.3L Cummins, an engine that hates being spun to 2,400 rpm yet has to be run there in this type of application, everything needs a watchful eye. After the injector above the number 6 hole stuck wide open, some serious heat began to build, culminating in the picture shown. During the teardown, damage to the sleeve and even the cylinder wall was spotted. Back during the midst of the melee, the operator never noticed the combine’s increase in fuel consumption or any additional racket within the cab.

Big news in the world of diesel drag racing, as digital creator Blake Fitzgerald (of Fitzgerald Performance, Fitzgerald Auto & Trailer Sales and most recently, Fitzgerald Motorsports Park) became an owner of the Outlaw Diesel Super Series. Working with owners Dan Scheid and Aaron Rudolf, Fitzgerald hopes to bring diesel drag racing to Tennessee once again (Fitzgerald Motorsports Park is the old Crossville Dragway and home to the Rocky Top Diesel Shootout), as well as make his eighth-mile venue the quintessential venue to host drag races, dyno events, burnout competitions, and even truck and tractor pulls.

For a quarter of a century, the top off-road companies, parts, gear, equipment, drivers, and experts in the world have gathered at the Off-Road Expo. For 2025, the annual event will move to its new home, Costa Mesa, California’s OC Fair & Events Center. The change in venue is said to have been due to the need for more space to adequately accommodate the growth of the expo, now in its 26th year. Official word is that the newly located Off-Road Expo—scheduled for October 4-5—will once again feature the Proving Grounds, an expanded Overland Experience, and the Score International Experience.

Getting the next generation interested in drag racing is something near and dear to our hearts, so when we saw Dragzine's article on Power Wheels drags, it really hit home. And where were these competitions when we were kids??? These types of races are getting popular nation wide. So much so that they're starting to get national sponsors like Hot Shot's Secret. Each race gets something like 130 attendees, they're extremely well-attended. The races run to just the 60 foot mark, popping off 2-second ET's at speeds of up to 24mph. A quick Google search revealed more than a dozen big events across the country, plus mini timing light setups, Power Wheel modification kits and more. It's a sport with some serious industry support!
