Technology is great and all, but an automaker’s ability to automatically update your truck’s software can cause major headaches. Case in point, if your ’23 or newer 6.7L Power Stroke equipped Super Duty is tuned, it’s imperative that you turn off automatic updates. Ford is now carrying out PCM flash revisions via over-the-air updates through the auto update sync. On some tuned trucks, the auto update doesn’t take. On others, it eventually does, forcing you to re-tune in order to have a functioning truck again. Don’t get caught off guard. Consider this your warning.

Ford threw down a 6:40.835 Nürburgring lap with the Mustang GTD Competition and everybody naturally waited for Chevrolet to answer. Apparently, they aren’t going to. Corvette chief Tony Roma says GM isn’t interested in a tit-for-tat lap-time fight, and another GM executive basically backed him up. There is a little shade being thrown, though. Chevy is proud that the ZR1 and ZR1X ran their times in production-spec form with company engineers behind the wheel, while Ford brought professional racer Dirk Müller and the not-yet-production GTD Competition. Call it whatever you want. The Mustang has the quicker number.

SPE dealer and sponsored racer, owner of Rowdy’s Automotive & Motorsports and 6.7L Power Stroke guru, Brad Helton, just made a new personal best pass in his ’11 F-250—and it’s nipping at the heels of the overall 4x4 1/8-mile 6.7L Power Stroke record. A recent trip down to Edgewater Sports Park (for the venue’s Truck Fest) proved the perfect time for Brad to uncork some of the potential trapped inside a truck that spends most of its time adhering to a 5.90 dial-in (by way of competing in the ODSS 5.90 Index category). The result? A 5.56-second pass at 129 mph. It’s not far off the record ET (5.49) and, thanks in part to recently switching to a Sam Wyse 4R100, leaves plenty of room for improvement in the future.

From the track to the dyno, another Power Stroke made noise recently—and this one set a new horsepower record for all Power Stroke platforms. At the Hub City Dirt Drags, Warren Diesel Injection’s Pro Mod Super Duty cleared 2,390 hp on the Northwest Dyno Series SuperFlow. If you haven’t guessed by now (and knowing Warren’s affinity for 6.0L’s), a 6.0L based Power Stroke was responsible for the record-breaking number. The engine sports Warren’s billet block, displaces 7.0 liters, builds boost with a big single turbo, utilizes a set of 10mm hybrid (HEUI) injectors, and spins an insane 6,000 rpm. The new record was made possible thanks to SC Diesel Repair’s Ivan Stoltzfus prepping the truck, coordinating the effort, and driving the truck on the rollers.

The King Of The Street Challenge commenced over the weekend at US 13 Dragway in Delmar, Delaware. A host of heavy hitters arrived ready to do battle at the drag strip, complete the 100-mile street drive, hop on the dyno, hook to the sled, and go heads-up in the dirt drags. When all the smoke cleared, AJ Santora and his third-gen Cummins finished out front. AJ credits TRE Diesel Performance, Flux Diesel Injection, and Santjer Performance Development for getting him into the winner’s circle. Two-time Seventy 2 Fast champion and last year’s KOS winner, Matthew Parker, took the runner-up spot. Third Place was awarded to Lewis Carter but, due to not meeting the rules in the dyno portion of the competition, he gave his spot (and payout) to the next competitor in line, Evan Moser.

A couple weeks ago, the forecast was dismal. This week, it’s sunny skies and 80-degree highs for the radial tire action going down at South Georgia Motorsports Park. Good thing No Mercy 17 was rescheduled! Things kick off today and, per the usual in recent years, a host of diesel-powered vehicles are making the trek to SGMP. Among them is the Firepunk Diesel team from central Ohio. Two years ago, their D&J Cummins-powered Duster reset the 1/8-mile diesel door slammer record with a sweltering, 3.85-second pass at 198 mph. Will they put another dragster-like pass together this year? Look for their Plum Crazy diesel muscle car to give it a shot while competing in the all-out, Radial Vs. The World category.
