Monumental News In Diesel Emissions

Last Wednesday, the Department of Justice announced it would “no longer pursue criminal charges under the Clean Air Act based on allegations of tampering with onboard diagnostic devices in motor vehicles.” PPEI’s Kory Willis, one of the biggest targets of the EPA in recent years and an outspoken advocate for common sense emission standards and clean calibrating, was quick to spread the news on social media. It appears all of his visits to Washington are beginning to pay off. However, that doesn’t mean the diesel industry is in the clear. Rather, the law remains written and firmly in place—and that criminal prosecutions could even be reinstated under a future administration. While this represents big progress, hopefully there is more to come…

Pro Mod Ranger For Sale

Jonathan Montesino‘s 2004 Ford Ranger is officially up for sale. It’s available in roller form and, although it was common-rail Cummins-powered when it ran 4-second eighth-miles, it was originally fitted with a 6.7L Power Stroke. The compact 2WD Ford boasts a four-link rear, a strut front-end, and is currently configured to run radials—but can also fit a pair of 16x36-inch slicks out back. Prior to losing its powertrain, the truck was equipped with a TH400 and a sleeved and filled 6.7L Cummins (6.4L) from Freedom Racing Engines. The truck is also wired for a MoTeC stand-alone ECU. A Mark Williams modular rear end, TBM brakes, and Menscer shocks at every corner are also part of the rolling chassis deal.

Digging Deep In Ocala

The 10th annual Ocala Winter Nationals commenced over the weekend and, while the country-wide winter storm left a lot of pullers stuck at home, a small group of Limited Pro Stock diesel trucks showed up in force. Chad Poirier’s second-gen Cummins coined “No Problem 248” was among them, and it laid down a strong, 251.31-foot pass on Saturday night. When the dust settled, Chad and his Attitude Diesel-backed Dodge held on for the big win. A Super Stock diesel truck test hook from “Kong” (and piloted by Zander Lee), Hot Farm tractors, and six other classes were also run at the well-attended north central Florida affair.

Built In Bed Drawers?

Ford says it’s been filing patents to use “dead space” in pickup beds, and this new one fits the theme: a drawer arranged adjacent to the box step. Same step access, but now you get a sneaky storage spot for the things you always want nearby—ratchet straps, a small tool roll, gloves, etc. The patent was filed July 17, 2024, published Jan 22, 2026, and lists serial number 0021772. Sounds like a great plan but thoughts of the Ram box's early sealing issues come to mind. That area takes a ton of abuse, how clean will it stay? Great idea either way, lets see how it looks once (if) implemented!

Dyno Fridays At Beans

The eddy brake Dynocom has grown lonely at Bean Machine, former home of the annual “Blackout In The Country” event. To give the rollers a regular workout, Bean has cleared its schedule on Fridays for customers looking to find out what kind of horsepower their pride and joy makes. The cost is $150 for three pulls, and you BYOT (bring your own tunes). Now, being that his location used to host one of the biggest parties in diesel, read this disclaimer: this is not a public event, sessions are by appointment only (no walk-ins allowed), and there will be no tuning provided by Beans Diesel.

Tarmac Takeover

Wamsley Performance is hosting a no-prep race, show ‘n shine, and dyno competition at Cuero Municipal Airport in Cuero, Texas this weekend. It’s called Tarmac Takeover and, with Wamsley being a successful diesel repair and performance shop located in the immediate area, the diesel presence should be pretty thick. Dyno categories include everything from stock diesel to large single and multi-turbo, while racing classes include RWYB, small tire, hot street, daily driver, and test and tune. Despite the recent cold front of weather sweeping through the Lone Star State, the event is still on for Friday and Saturday, January 30-31—and rumor has it that Truck Source Diesel could bring a team of formidable diesels out to compete.
